Background: California Grill is a pop-up restaurant in Redlands, CA focused on providing the highest quality steak and lobster in a COVID-19 safe environment. They are open for the summer offering USDA Prime New York steak, North Atlantic lobster tails, ice-cold beer, and free french fries at every table.
Challenge: California Grill focused on providing accessibility via the pop-up, and was able to secure exceptionally low food costs. But to maintain a value proposition for guests, they needed to optimize their labor model…that’s where OneDine came in.
Solution: OneDine provided California Grill with a technology solution that allowed them to serve guests without requiring team members to deliver menus, take orders, or process payments. Entry signage directs guests to seat themselves, where they scan a QR code from a laminated directional placed on each table. This launches a menu browsing, ordering, and payment sequence the guest completes directly from their mobile device. With no exchange of menus, credit cards, pens, or paper receipts, California Grill can deliver on their promise of providing a safe dining experience.
Marketing Activation: To promote the pop-up California Grill partnered with a local radio station to give away specially-designed can koozies. Winners of the koozies could bring them to the pop-up location for a free soda or beer with meal purchase. Not only did this drive traffic to the location, but the radio mentions increased awareness of the concept.
The location also sold custom T-shirts featuring elements of the local culture in Redlands.
Results: Since opening in mid-September the 7-table location has served nearly 1400 parties and collected over $56,000 in incremental revenues.
